10 Q'S WITH SASCHIE OF RSVP 33

Name: Shakeira MacLean but everyone calls me Saschie

Work Title: Founder and Program Director

Hometown City: Vancouver

Work Life: RSVP 33 operates dance classes for fun and fitness in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto. Our signature class is our Beyoncé class, where we teach beginner level routines exclusively to Beyoncé songs. While our students learn cool new moves, we're really about creating a space for our communities where people can give themselves that TLC we all need, whether it be mental, physical, or spiritual.

Q. What’s more likely to be in your cup? Chai or Coffee and why?
A. Coffee. I'm not functioning until I've had my cup of the day.

Q. If you were on a jet plane right now, where would you be headed?

A. Oh, this is a tough one. It's so rainy right now so I'll say, Bali, Hawaii, or Morocco. I'll take a dose of sunshine, please!

Q. If a genie could grant you three wishes what would they be?

1. A conversation with my late sister, or whatever interaction would be in the scope of their power.

2. The ability to teleport.

3. A better sense of humour so I could make people smile more.

Q. Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
A. I have my motorcycle license and used to ride a Yamaha FZ6.

Q. If you won the lottery at this very moment what would your next move be?

A. Invest in other business ventures and continue to grow RSVP 33. I'd also make sure my parents and in-laws could retire and then take a minute to run off to one of the aforementioned sunny destination spots.

Q. What led you to start RSVP 33 and then later launch the Beyoncé Dance Class Series?

A. RSVP 33's classes were initially completely self-serving. I was one month into grieving the death of my little sister, Chantal, and after seeing a cute routine to a Beyoncé song on Instagram, I decided to take a dance class. After getting back into the studio I had this completely therapeutic experience -- I worked up a sweat, which was amazing considering I had spent the majority of the last month eating Kettle Valley BBQ chips on the couch, but more importantly, the process of learning choreography had my mind engaged with something else other than my sadness. My business/life partner, Roman, then suggested I coordinate some classes for me and my friends so I could do classes exclusively to Beyoncé, because naturally, that's what I wanted. A Facebook post later, our class was sold out and we've been growing ever since.

Q. If you could tell something to high school Saschie about grown up Saschie now, what would you say?

A. Focus on the process and the journey. Those are the parts that matter.

Q. What is one moment regarding RSVP 33 that you're most proud of?

A. It's not a moment, but rather the effect RSVP 33 has had with students. In some cases, we're told how a class with us has helped them smile while going through tough parts in a relationship or their job, or it's taught them walk more confidently in their every day life. It's simply the fact that for an hour they're with us, we sweat and laugh together. I love that we're creating a positive experience for individuals that builds into positive momentum in our whole community.

Q. If Beyoncé were to join in on one of the dance class series what song of hers would she dance to?
A. I think she'd dance to everything. We'd recreate the VH1 medley for her!

Q. What does the future hold for RSVP 33?

A. We expanded into Toronto this past spring and Calgary this fall. We're continuing to grow our team, implement processes, and reach new markets. We're really excited to keep learning and growing with our community.
