Today I Turn 24

Today I turn 24! 12:36pm on June 29, 1992, marks the day I made my grand entrance into the world. I was born one minute after my twin sister. Today we’re turning 24 and all I can say is holy sh*t. It's funny how things work. When I was younger I wanted to be older. Now that I'm getting older I want to be younger again.

How can I be 24? Even saying it makes me what to cringe just a little bit. With every birthday that comes, I can’t help but reflect on my life to see how far it is that I’ve come. So far here’s what I’ve learned in my 23 birthdays leading up to the big two – four (in no particular order).

1) Less is more.

2) Sometimes you just have to fake it til’ you make it.

3) It's ok to ask questions because there’s a 99% chance that someone is already thinking it.

4) Always have a little black dress in your closet.

5) The only person that can make your dreams come true is you.

6) The grass is not always greener on the other side.

7) A bright lip is always a good idea.

8) Treat others the way you want to be treated.

9) Vancouver is a small place. Somehow, someway everyone knows everyone.

10) Do the right thing even when no one is looking.

11) Money is not the end all be all.

12) No matter your level of success always remember where you came from.

13) Friends will come and go but family is forever.

14) See the world. Travel wherever you can for as long as you can.

15) Be passionate about what you choose to do with your life.

16) Love is love.

17) Take care of your body.

18) A family pet can bring so much love and joy into your home.

19) Laugh. Laugh at yourself, family or friends, the world. Just make sure you find time to laugh.

20) Celebrate yourself and your accomplishments.

21) Save your money.

22) Your whole life does not need to be broadcasted on social media. Keep some of it a mystery.

23) Don’t be a follower. Stay true to yourself and be your own leader.

So here’s to turning 24 with my twin sister today. I really can’t believe the day is already here. I look forward to learning what 24 has to offer.
